Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing

Women’s health care often includes support for mental and emotional wellbeing. Our GPs can provide assessment, counselling, and treatment for common mental health concerns, as well as referrals to psychologists or psychiatrists where appropriate.

Care may include Mental Health Treatment Plans for eligible patients to support access to Medicare rebated psychology services.

1. Do you have female GPs available for women’s health appointments?

Yes. Banksia Medical Centre has female GPs across our Torquay, Newcomb, Hamlyn Heights and Belmont clinics. Availability may vary.

2. When should I start cervical screening?

In Australia, cervical screening is recommended every 5 years for people with a cervix aged 25–74. Your GP can advise on self collection or clinician collected options.

3. Can you help with menopause and perimenopause symptoms?

Yes. Our GPs provide assessment and evidence based management for perimenopause and menopause, tailored to individual needs.

4. Do I need a referral for women’s health services?

Most women’s health services do not require a referral. Referrals may be required for some specialist or allied health services.

5. Are mental health services available as part of women’s health care?

Yes. Mental health assessment and care can be provided by our GPs, with referrals to psychology or psychiatry where appropriate.
