Appointment Cancellations & Non Attendance
Banksia Medical Centre values the time of our patients and healthcare professionals. Missed appointments and late cancellations reduce our ability to offer care to other patients.
To support fair access and continuity of care, the following cancellation policy applies across our clinics.
Cancellation & Rescheduling Notice
Patients are required to provide a minimum of 2 hours’ notice if they need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
Cancellations can be made by:
• Phoning the clinic directly
• Responding to appointment reminder messages where applicable
Non Attendance (DNA) Fees
If an appointment is missed or cancelled with less than 2 hours’ notice, a Did Not Attend (DNA) fee of $120.00 may be charged.
Please note:
• DNA fees are not rebatable through Medicare
• DNA fees apply to in-clinic and telehealth appointments
• DNA fees apply per missed appointment
• Repeated non attendance may affect future booking availability
• Future appointments cannot be made until the DNA fee is paid
Procedure & Extended Appointment Cancellations
Procedures and extended appointments require additional preparation, staffing, and resources.
Failure to attend or late cancellation of these appointments may result in higher cancellation fees, depending on the nature of the service and notice provided. Patients will be advised of any applicable fees at the time of booking.
Telehealth Appointments
Telehealth appointments are subject to the same cancellation policy as in clinic appointments.
Failure to attend a scheduled telehealth consultation without sufficient notice may incur a DNA fee.
Exceptional Circumstances
We understand that unexpected situations can arise. Exceptional circumstances may be considered at the discretion of the practice.
If you believe there are circumstances affecting your ability to attend an appointment, please contact reception as soon as possible.
Appointment Reminders
SMS appointment reminders are sent approximately 24 hours before your appointment, where available. Patients are responsible for attending their appointment even if a reminder is not received.
Why This Policy Exists
Our cancellation policy helps:
• Reduce missed appointments
• Improve access to care for other patients
• Support efficient use of clinical time
• Maintain continuity of care
