Monica Caixinha is an Accredited Practising Dietitian in Australia and a Registered Nutritionist with the Portuguese Professional Order of Nutritionists, with more than 25 years of experience in nutrition and dietetics. She consults at Banksia Medical Centre in Hamlyn Heights and supports patients with practical, evidence-based nutrition care.

Monica completed her nutrition and dietetics training in Portugal, where she first worked across clinical, community and tertiary education settings. Her early experience included private practice, hospital care, health promotion, and teaching and supervising student dietitians.
For around the past 10 years, Monica has continued her dietetic career in Australia, with her clinical work focused mainly in private practice. She enjoys helping patients make nutrition feel simple, practical and realistic for their everyday life.
Monica takes a patient-centred and non-judgemental approach to care. She works with patients to develop realistic nutrition strategies that support long-term health, well-being, and quality of life.

Her clinical areas of interest include:
• Women’s health, including PMOS, previously known as PCOS, endometriosis, peri-menopause and menopause
• Gut health, including IBS, inflammatory bowel disease, reflux / GORD, diverticular disease and coeliac disease
• Food intolerances, including FODMAPs, food chemical sensitivities and other food-related triggers
• Metabolic health, including type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, high cholesterol, gout and fatty liver disease / MASLD
• Thyroid health, including hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s disease and Graves’ disease
• Weight management, with a non-judgmental and health-focused approach
• Disordered eating behaviours and non-diet nutrition support
• Post-bariatric surgery nutrition support
• Nutrition adequacy, including malnutrition risk, unintentional weight loss and nutritional deficiencies
• Everyday healthy eating for long-term health, wellbeing and quality of life

Monica is currently available at Banksia Medical Centre in Hamlyn Heights one Friday per month, with additional days available if needed.
