Our Approach to Care

Banksia Medical Centre has been serving communities across Geelong and surrounding suburbs for over 30 years. We provide holistic, family-centred healthcare, delivered through a multidisciplinary team working collaboratively to support patients at every stage of life.

Vaccinations & Immunisations

We provide a comprehensive range of vaccinations and immunisations for children and adults.
Government-funded (National Immunisation Program)

• Childhood and high school immunisations
• Shingles
• COVID-19
• Pneumococcal
• Whooping cough (during pregnancy)
• Influenza (for eligible groups, including chronic health conditions, ages 6 months–5 years, and adults over 65)

Private vaccines

• Yellow Fever (on site)
• Influenza (private)

Other vaccines require a prescription from your GP and can be purchased from a pharmacy and administered by our nursing team. We can also assist with overseas immunisation records, catch-up schedules, travel vaccines, and travel health advice.

On-site Pathology Services

We offer on-site pathology collection at both clinics. All referrals are accepted, and no appointment is required during walk-in hours.

Monday & Wednesday: 8:30am – 12:30pm

Outside these hours, please contact reception to arrange a nurse appointment.

Health Assessments

We provide bulk-billed preventative health assessments designed to identify risk factors early and support healthy ageing.

Health assessments include a review of medications, physical health, emotional wellbeing, social factors, and lifestyle risks.

Eligibility includes:

• 45–49 years: One-off health assessment
• 75 years and over: Annual health assessment
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients: Annual assessment (no age limit)

Assessments typically take 45–60 minutes and are followed by a discussion with your nominated GP.

Chronic Condition Management Plan (CCMP)

Eligible patients can access Chronic Condition Management Plans, including GP Management Plans and Team Care Arrangements.

These plans:

• Set clear health goals for the year ahead
• Coordinate care with specialists and allied health professionals
• May enable access to up to five Medicare-rebated allied health visits per calendar year (combined across providers)

Minor Surgical Procedures

Our experienced doctors and nurses provide a range of minor surgical procedures in a safe, sterile clinical environment.

Services may include:

• Skin lesion removal
• Cyst excisions
• Biopsies

Follow-up care and recovery support are provided as part of your ongoing care plan.

Wound Care

Our nursing and GP team can assist with a wide range of acute and chronic wound care needs.

We provide:

• Wound assessment and advice
• Ongoing wound management
• Individualised wound care plans to support optimal healing

Telehealth Consultations

Telehealth consultations are available for general medical appointments that do not require a physical examination.

Please note:

• Patients must have been seen in clinic within the last 12 months to receive a Medicare rebate
• Patients not seen within 12 months may be required to pay the full fee, with no Medicare rebate

Telehealth is provided where clinically appropriate and in line with Medicare requirements.

Iron Infusions

Iron infusions are available for eligible patients at our Torquay and Newcomb clinics.

• Performed by your GP with nursing support
• Typically takes around 1 hour

Sleep Studies

If you experience snoring, pauses in breathing during sleep, or excessive daytime fatigue, a home sleep study may be recommended to assess for sleep apnoea.

The test is completed in the comfort of your own home with clear instructions provided.

Home Visits

For patients who are unable to attend the clinic, home visits may be available in Torquay and surrounding areas, provided by a GP where clinically appropriate.

EEG Studies

We offer on-site EEG studies to assess the brain’s electrical activity and assist in diagnosing conditions such as seizures and epilepsy. Watch this short video to see what happens on the day of your EEG study.
